Giethoorn and beyond by bike
Giethoorn, the 'Venice of the North', is famous for its canals, wooden bridges and thatched farmhouses. But the real adventure starts just outside the village: Weerribben-Wieden National Park is the largest peat wetland in north-west Europe. Think endless reed beds, open water and a rich bird life.

Do I need a driving licence for a fat bike?
No. An electric fat bike is an e-bike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h, so no licence is needed. You do need to be at least 1.50 m tall.
Can children ride a fat bike?
Yes, there is no minimum age. Anyone 1.50 m or taller can ride. Smaller children can ride along on the back of a duo e-chopper.
Do I have to wear a helmet?
A helmet is not required on the fat bike, but it's a good idea.
How far can I go on a fat bike?
The Ouxi V8 battery has more than enough range for a full day of riding through Giethoorn and Weerribben-Wieden. Ask us for the best route when you pick up your bike.
Rental conditions
- You are at least 1.50 m tall. There is no minimum age, so teenagers are welcome.
- A fat bike is for one person; no passengers or children on the back.
- Maximum speed is 25 km/h; please follow the Dutch traffic rules.
- The centre of Steenwijk is off limits (camera enforcement, € 210 fine).
- The fat bike is insured; the renter's excess is € 1,000. Rather not worry? Add the damage and theft cover (from € 3.50 per vehicle).
